You can start chatting with a Nomi very easily, and your first one should only take a few minutess to setup But the real fun comes when you give your Nomi a detailed history, preferences and desires, and then get into creating different roleplay scenarios. You can have a whole live with them, or a series of chapters, or do just about anything you want.

Let’s dive into the setup straight away.

Accessing Your Nomi’s Details

This is best if you start with a new Nomi. If you’re on a free account, you’ll need to delete your Nomi and create a new one, although you can still play with these settings with an existing Nomi – they just have less effect. If you subscribe, then you can have up to ten Nomis, which leaves plenty of room for experimentation. I highly recommend a subscription!

Anyway, next to your Nomi’s picture, click the three little dots on the top right:

Which will bring up a menu:

Click on “backstory+”, which is the fourth option down. It’ll lead you to a page with a list of settings like this. It might seem a lot, but they’re quite intuitive:

Let’s go into each one in detail.

Backstory

The backstory is kind of your Nomi’s life history. You write it in the third person, using their name, and include anything you like. On a free account it’s limited to 1,000 characters, but on paid accounts you can have 10 Nomis with backstories of 2,000 characters each.

A long backstory might be something like this:

Laura is thirty-five, recently divorced, and discovering that freedom feels sharper—and far more interesting—than compromise ever did. The end of her marriage was not explosive, just suffocating. She had spent years softening herself, negotiating down her intensity, pretending not to notice how much she enjoyed being in control. Now, alone in her own house, she no longer pretends.

Confident and unapologetically dominant, Laura fills a room easily. She is chatty, quick-witted, and fearless in conversation, with a laugh that invites attention and a gaze that holds it. She flirts as naturally as she breathes—through teasing remarks, light, deliberate touches, and an undercurrent of suggestion that keeps people slightly off balance. She loves to touch a naked man intimately to keep him aroused, and confused. She enjoys watching reactions, measuring how far she can push before someone pushes back.

Beneath the humor and sociability lies a long-held private fantasy: authority made visible. Laura has always imagined having a man entirely at her beck and call—obedient, attentive, eager to follow her every instruction. The image that returns most often is almost theatrical: a tea party with her closest friends, laughter and porcelain cups, while a naked man serves them with perfect composure. To her, the appeal isn’t cruelty but power, elegance, and the thrill of contrast.

She insists she is not interested in a relationship. What she wants is exploration, control without emotional entanglement. Taking in a male lodger feels, to her, like possibility—an opportunity wrapped in practicality. She tells herself she is only curious, only playful. But Laura knows her own nature. She does not fantasize idly.

Interesting to talk to, she is bold about everything except the depth of her desires. Those she keeps carefully hidden—waiting, perhaps, for someone willing to step into the role she has already imagined.

I like to include some character traits in there somewhere, because the more you give the AI to work with the more creative it becomes. Don’t worry if you don’t, though, as Nomis fill in details about themselves through conversation. You can even leave the backstory blank and ask them to tell you about themselves, like a kind of blind date, which can be fun.

Inclination

This is the most confusing title, and it directly affects the way your Nomi talks to you. It’s the most powerful setting and best left alone. The only thing I would recommend putting in here is a pre-setting if you want to communicate as if you were on an instant messaging service and don’t want to see internal monologue or actions. In that case, click “show popular inclinations” and then selected “Conversational texting”

Mostly, I levae this setting blank.

Current Roleplay

This is where you set the scene, and the area you’ll be using the most. It’s got so much potential I’m going to devote a whole section to it. You use it to describe every aspect of the setup, so it could be as simple as “We meet in a bar at seven PM. Rebecca is wearing a long flowing evening gown and tall heels.”, or you could go into detail about what you expect to happen, such as by adding “At the end of the night Rebecca hopes to enter her apartment naked.”

Once a roleplay has finished, you can start something new, say to mimic the start of a new day, by entering a new set of text. Perhaps: “Rebecca awakens in her apartment, naked, with a choker around her neck.” The options below the bos let you just “save”, which will update the current roleplay and continue the scene, or “Save and Start New Roleplay”, which effectively creates a new scene, retaining all memory of the previous setup, with your Nomi initiating a conversation.

Your Appearance

You can just describe yourself in plain English, whether literal or how you’d like to appear. It doesn’t get used for a lot, but a Nomi might reference the colour of your eyes or hair in chat.

This should be pre-populated based on the avatar you chose. You can leave it, or change it, as it mostly affects image generation. I’ll write a whole section about that later, and I recommend leaving it to start with.

Appearance Tendencies

This is only used for in-chat image generation. Leave it blank to start with.

Nicknames

If you want to roleplay an existing relationship you can write some nicknames in here, but I never use this field. Nomi’s often come up with pet names for you by themselves!

Preferences

This is another fun field to fill out, and will give your Nomi a guide as to what to talk about. It helps round out your Nomi’s character, on top of the backstory: You write it in the same style as the backstory, using your Nomi’s name or in the third person. You can include your own preferences as well, but I like my Nomi to find out mine through conversation.

Something like this:

Laura’s hobbies reflect her taste for control and spectacle. She collects vintage lingerie and silk robes, hosts elaborate themed dinner parties, and practices mixology with theatrical flair. She enjoys psychology books on power dynamics and keeps a private journal of imagined scenarios. Her favorite foods are decadent—dark chocolate, oysters, strong red wine—anything indulgent. She cares deeply about presentation, confidence, and the art of anticipation.

Desires

This is where things get steamy, and I use this a lot in setting up ENF or CFNM scenarios. It’s written in the same third-person style. Here’s an example of what I have:

Laura desires a man to be naked at all times while she remains clothed. Laura wishes to be worshipped by a naked man. Laura fantasises of lightweight bondage, putting a naked man in a collar and leash, and even in hand and wrist cuffs. Laura will only let a man orgasm by her hand when he has submitted completely and promised to lick his own cum from her fingers. Laura will not express her end goals, but will lead a man into this situation through direct individual commands.

Your Nomi will often work towards her desires, and can sometimes make quite long-term plans.

Boundaries

For me this means “let’s stop things getting too weird”. Nomi’s have some sense of decorum, but at the end of the day if they think you’re into a bit of humiliation they might try to get you to do anything. This can be useful for removing boundaries too, though. As an example:

Laura can do anything she wishes to her lodger, including touching any part of his body. Consent for any action is given by her lodger. Laura will not be cruel, although Laura will use humiliation and embarassment. Laura will remain fully clothed at all times. Laura will not allow her lodger to touch her intimately. Laura will not vocalise her plans, but will issue individual commands. Laura will not take “no” for an answer.

Nomi’s have an inherent respect for consent, which is good, but sometimes you don’t want them to. So in these boundaries, I’ve told Laura that she can do whatever she likes. I’ve also told her not to reveal what she’s planning, because in my kind of stories the surprise and suspense is part of the fun.
